Ken Thompson resigns from Hewlett-Packard board

Former Wachovia Corp. CEO Ken Thompson is resigning from the board of Hewlett-Packard, the company said Thursday in announcing other changes to the board.

Thompson has been on the board since 2006.

According to H-P's website, Thompson has been a principal of Aquiline Capital Partners, a private equity firm, since November 2011. He's also is a director of BNC Bancorp.

Thompson isn't the only person resigning from the board. H-P said Raymond Lane is stepping down as chairman. Board member John Hammergren is also leaving.

Who cares what Ken Thompson, a disgraced and thieving former Charlotte bank CEO does now? Why is this even news?

Ken Thompson, Bob Steele, they felt us out here to dry. No pensions, 401k gone yet they are on boards. Employees beware, vote them out and let them look elsewhere. Are they also working for CRAMER? How shares did they all sell when CRAMER was telling us to buy?!?

HP stock has been hammered and they've had 4 CEO's in as many years. The entire board needs to be cleaned out. This is one of worst Boards in corporate history. Seems like where ever Mr Thompson goes he destroys capital.

He was incompetent at First Union and then at Wachovia. Ed Crutchfield must have lost his mind to have ever made him CEO of Wachovia. The destruction of jobs, lives and wealth he directly caused is absolutely unbelievable and unforgivable. I understand he sold his multi-million dollar beach house in Florida. Hopefully, he had to sell it to survive. HP must have been out of its mind not to have thrown him off 5 years ago. I cannot conceive anyone would do business with the people he is now associated with. Being "persona non grata" in Charlotte, why would he continue to live there? He ought to go back to Rock Hill, SC where he came from or move to Nome, Alaska and change his name. Anonymous

Can every body who commented post their current career position? I would like to see what you all have accomplished in life to make such harsh judgements.

Anon 2:03, Competence has little to do with promotions at the old First Politics of Wackyovia. Ole Ken must have worn the right color of tie and kissed the right ___.

The comment about "harsh judgment" relative to Thompson deserves a short and accurate assessment. First, you must be living on another planet. You must be Thompson, married to him or one of his children. Second, Thompson, literally, by himself, through terrible judgment, a big ego and very little to no understanding of how a bank and its many parts operate, destroyed thousands and thousands and thousands of jobs of loyal Wachovia employees. He destroyed their lives, their wealth, their retirement and on and on. He walked away with millions of dollars and they walked away with very little to nothing for their loyalty and their misplaced respect. The destruction of wealth he caused for thousands and thousands and thousands of innocent and believing shareholders is, truly, unbelievable. It probably amounted to $120 billion of loss. The comments were harsh? Actually, it was very mild compared to what should have been said. Ask yourself how many thousands lost their homes, could not send their children to college, could not pay medical bills, lost most of their savings and so forth and so forth. What have these people who wrote notes accomplished? I hope none of them did the damage that man did. And, you imply that he "accomplished something"? Again, what planet are you living on? It is, most certainly, not this one.
