Wells Fargo named best Internet bank in U.S.

Global Finance magazine has named Wells Fargo the "best Internet bank" in the U.S. for both consumers and corporations, according to its annual rankings published in its September issue.

In the consumer category, Wells took the top spot in best bill payment, best website design and best in social media.

In corporate, Wells was tops in website design, mobile banking and online treasury services.

“Customers have woven online and mobile banking into their everyday lives, and engage with us each day through our social media channel. The Global Finance Magazine awards are a great honor,” Wells Fargo digital channels group executive Jim Smith said in a statement.

“Customers are at the center of everything we do, and we constantly listen to them through research and feedback as we work to address their needs and help them succeed financially.”

Yup, four out of five Mexican drug lords prefer Wells Fargo because they can watch their money being laundered online.

What???? Do they own this magazine?

Wells Fargo is by far the worst online bank experience I've ever had. Their online bill pay is horrible. If a biller changes their address the Wells Fargo system doesn’t allow you to update it. Unlike every other bank system (and the Wachovia system they pulled me from), you can’t just edit the address. Their system doesn’t allow address edits. So you have to enter address changes as brand new payees from scratch . And- as a bonus- if the name of that new payee matches an existing payee, the system won’t allow you to enter it. So you’re left with either deleting the existing payee with the old address, hence losing all record of prior payments, or you have to try to get clever with a new name that the system won’t recognize (but the Post Office will when they deliver the payment). All this for a simple address change that would take 2 minutes and zero hassle with any other bank in the world. Maybe some of those TARP funds made it into the pockets of this magazine. No other way this bank could ever win an online award.

I don't know......when you compare it against the other banks it wins in my eyes. They have flaws, but every time I've run into one and reported it....they've fixed it.

Name someone better? Chase's online is archaic. BB&T makes Chase's website look like a sci-fi movie. Bank of America is the closest thing and I've had way more problems with transactions being entered and miraculously deleted after the fact.

I'll take wells.

I agree with the writer who complained about not being able to change the address of the payee. It is very frustrating.
To be honest, when Wachovia had the online banking it was MUCH, MUCH, MUCH better. Wells should have taken a lesson from the bank they took over.
I've even considered moving my accounts because the online banking is so ridiculous at Wells.

Agreed. Naming WF banking site the "best" is a big joke. It's a pretty crappy site, actually. Let me tell how these "best of" articles work w/ fringe publications like 'Corporate Finance.' Guess who likely just agreed to be a 12-time advert buyer in said publication over the next 12 months? It's all a con game.

If you've been using online banking with Wells Fargo since the Wachovia days, which assumes you are a legacy WB customer, how much weight could saying they're the worst you've used really carry? How many checking accounts do you have? What other online banking interfaces have you used in the past 5 years out of curiosity? And in what order would you rank them?

Well they sure are not going to receive the customer service award, they are terrible when it comes to their call centers with the rudest and pushiest reps. So happy when left them last month.

Well at least if someone hacked into your account, they would not be able to "edit" your mortgage payment to their own address. In today's climate, that could end up having you living in an appartment.

Wells Fargo call center reps have to meet a sales quota.

I agree it is a hassle if a biller changes an address - having to reinput all of the information is a royal pain. I had to do this just yesterday. Then Wells clutters up your inbox with emails telling you that you deleted a biller and added a biller. Not really. All I did was change a biller's address. And what about this nonsense about deducting the money from your account the day the check is sent, rather than the day the check is presented for payment? Because of weekends, the 5 days Wells says it needs can stretch into 9 days. And even longer if the biller holds on to the check for a few days. And all that time Wells is earning interest on my money (because Wells hasn't had to pay out the funds) and I'm not. Such a deal for Wells. Wachovia didn't take the money out of my account until the check was presented for payment. And to the poster who questioned the legacy Wachovia customer about what online bill payment systems he'd used other than Wachovia and Wells - I not only have used another bank's online bill payment, I CURRENTLY use another bank's online bill payment and will be switching from Wells shortly.

Good stuff, I never thought they were that known now.

Playing the float (using my mobey to the banks benefit until the check is presented) is stealing in my opinion. Who has customer equipment (scanner, etc) that will allow electronic secure deposits so I can avoid going to Wells Fargo. I was much happier with Wachovia, and BankAtlantic had the best online banking. I wish I had Checkfree back. WellsFargo takes a bill Pay transaction on Saturday, and does not execute it until monday with a 5 day delivery window. What kind of business is this that the branch is open, but the back office is closed...I need a bank with a 24/7 back office that takes electronic customer transactions and no branches.

I've been with WF for over 20 years and probably wont switch (probably) but i do have to say in hopes that the right eyes see this - their website is horrible. its one of the most unreliable sites i visit. I visit thousands of sites a month and i can always count on WF to be unreliable, down, frozen or slow.
